چکیده

The peptidocalixarenes 1–3 bearing tryptophan, phenylglycine and leucil units at the lower rim and their complexes with alkali-metal (Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs) and selected lanthanide cations (La, Ce, Eu, Yb) were analyzed by ESI MS. The influences of the solvent (acetonitrile, methanol, addition of formic acid or sodium acetate) and the calixarene:cation molar ratio on signal intensities were investigated. Comprehensive MS/MS analyses were performed of all singly and doubly charged ions of 1–3 and their complexes, and fragmentation pathways were proposed. An inductive cleavage was observed during dissociation of protonated ions, while the presence of alkali-metal or lanthanide cations caused homolytic cleavage and formation of radical cations. The results of MS analysis were in accordance with those obtained by other techniques (spectrophotometric, potentiometric, and conductometric titrations). The MS/MS experiments could be used as fast and sensitive method for prediction of relative stabilities of calixarene complexes with metal ions. (doi: 10.5562/cca2125)

Identification of metal species by ESI-MS/MS through release of free metals from the corresponding metal-ligand complexes

Electrospray ionization-mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) is used to analyze metal species in a variety of samples. Here, we describe an application for identifying metal species by tandem mass spectrometry (ESI-MS/MS) with the release of free metals from the corresponding metal-ligand complexes. The MS/MS data were used to elucidate the possible fragmentation pathways of different metal-deoxymugineic...

Comparison of mass spectrometry and other techniques for probing interactions between metal complexes and DNA.

Electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) was used to study the binding interactions of two series of ruthenium complexes, [Ru(phen) 2L] (2+) and [RuL' 2(dpqC)] (2+), to a double stranded DNA hexadecamer, and derive orders of relative binding affinity. These were shown to be in good agreement with orders of relative binding affinity derived from absorption and circular dichroism (CD) s...

Studying noncovalent protein complexes by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry.

Electrospray ionization mass spectrometry has been used to study protein interactions driven by noncovalent forces. The gentleness of the electrospray ionization process allows intact protein complexes to be directly detected by mass spectrometry. Evidence from the growing body of literature suggests that the ESI-MS observations for these weakly bound systems reflect, to some extent, the nature...

Arylazo derivatives of some fluorinated β-diketones and their metal complexes

Phenylazo and benzothiazolylazo derivatives of trifluoroacetylacetone andhexafluoroacetylacetone have been synthesized and characterized. Analytical and spectral datarevealed the existence of phenylazo derivatives in the intramolecularly hydrogen-bonded ketohydrazoneform while the benzothiazolylazo derivatives in the azo-enol form. The monobasicbidentate coordination of the phenylazo derivative...

Selective Detection of Carbohydrates and Their Peptide Conjugates by ESI-MS Using Synthetic Quaternary Ammonium Salt Derivatives of Phenylboronic Acids

We present new tags based on the derivatives of phenylboronic acid and apply them for the selective detection of sugars and peptide-sugar conjugates in mass spectrometry. We investigated the binding of phenylboronic acid and its quaternary ammonium salt (QAS) derivatives to carbohydrates and peptide-derived Amadori products by HR-MS and MS/MS experiments. The formation of complexes between suga...
